In cooperation with the Louisiana and South Carolina Departments of Insurance, the Competitive Enterprise Institute with the Independent Institute has gathered a distinguished group of speakers and attendees to address the multitude of issues we face in making reform work. Over two days of panels, seminars, and workshops, the conference will focus on the successes and challenges that hurricane-prone states have faced in ambitious property insurance reform efforts.

The conference will begin with a reception on September 30, and end at lunch time on October 2, 2009, after which there will be an opportunity for those interested to take a bus tour of a Katrina-affected area of the city. We have reserved rooms at the New Orleans Sheraton next to the French Quarter. We intend to make scholarships available for legislators and regulators from areas throughout the Gulf and Atlantic Coasts. Conference fees will cover meals and include discounted room rates. (Per our agreement with the Sheraton New Orleans, all rooms will be available at government per diem rate of $140 per night.) Commissioner Donelon has already made a speaking invitation to Gov. Jindal and we’re hoping to attract several other high-profile speakers.
